Great quality accelerometer with low power consumption

The ADXL335 is a small, thin, low power, complete 3-axis accelerometer with signal conditioned voltage outputs. The product measures acceleration with a minimum full-scale range of ±3 g. This is the latest in a long, proven line of analog sensors - the holy grail of accelerometers. The ADXL335 is a triple axis accelerometer with extremely low noise and power consumption - only 320uA!
There is no on-board regulation and voltage input is between 1.8 and 3.6VDC. Board comes fully assembled and tested with external components installed. The included 0.1uF capacitors set the bandwidth of each axis to 50Hz.

This module allows you to measure acceleration, detect impacts and determine orientation. Perfect for robotics projects.

Arduino has an "i" in it ;-} see this page heading for typo. This is a tiny board which comes with a choice of two types of header pins to solder in yourself. This is a crucial feature as the orientation of the board can be critical in your projects application. The adafriut arduino libraries will work with this. Adafruit_MMA8451.h and Adafruit_MMA8451.cpp. With some tweaking "processing IDE" can be used to graphically display the serial data this board puts out. useful to demonstrate that gravity is an accelleration acting on a stationary object as the output shows 9.8 G from the horizontal "Z" axis when the board is not moving. The board can also be used to demo a simulated seismograph or vibration detector. simple four wire practical project for physics students with an added interest in electronics.
